During the first semester, on the Ragusa and Modica trip ESN leads you to the very heart of Sicilian Baroque, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Torn down by the catastrophic Val di Noto earthquake of 1693, and rebuilt with the local limestone by the taste of the time, Ragusa Ibla is a peaceful city hosting the branch of the School of "Foreign Languages and Literatures" of the University of Catania and its white roads hatch into the main square where the Duomo di San Giorgio stands majestic.
Though Modica's architecture has nothing to envy to Ragusa's one with the palaces along the main road and its cathedrals of San Pietro and San Giorgio, its fame is also related to chocolate. Modica's chocolate is still produced following the Aztec recipe and thus has a peculiar grainy texture and aromatic flavour, which we will happily taste at Antica Dolceria Bonajuto.
Tip! Don't forget to taste the typical scacce.
