The Siracusa trip is the last appointment of every Welcome Week. ESN Catania heads to the birth city of Archimedes, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, to discover its treasures:
- the archaelogical park of Neapolis, with its perfectly preserved Greek theatre, and the fascinating Dionysius ear, the latomie and necropolis carved in the white rock and the Roman amphitheatre;
- the Maniace Castle, an example of the military architecture of Frederick II's reign;
- the Sicilian Baroque, a great example of which is the Duomo of Siracusa in Ortigia, built over a Greek doric temple dedicated to Athena;
- the beauties of Ortygia island, the very historical centre of Syracuse, such as the Fountain of Arethusa where, according to a legend, the nymph Arethusa took shelter when hunted by Alpheus.
Let's explore Sicily together!
